On Monday, President Trump announced, to the nation, his Supreme Court nominee following the retirement of Justice Kennedy. Everyone was on pens and needles yesterday, waiting to see who would get the robe. Then, at 9:00 PM eastern, The President announced that he had picked Brett Kavanaugh for Supreme Court justice. First of all, I want to congratulate him on his nomination and I wish him success. Now, as far as what I think about him, I don’t think he was the best pick, but he most definitely is not the worst. I would have preferred Judge Amy Barrett better, but I’ll get to that later. There are several issues where he is strong on and others where he is at best dicey on. On issues like the second amendment and Cheverondeference, he is very strong on in terms of the constitution. He criticized DC’s “assault weapons ban” stating correctly that it banned only certain guns with certain features that doesn’t make it perform any different than another gun. In other words, he declared it unconstitutional, which he is correct on. One of the issues that he dicey on would be Roe v Wade. Even with Kavanaugh, it’s unlikely that a vote to review Roe would be reached and if does it’s unclear whether or not he would vote to overturn it. At best, he along with Justice Roberts, will probably slowly roll it back, which is better than nothing, but I think most conservatives would like for the whole thing to be overturned. Roe v Wade was garbage ruling from the beginning and should have been overturned long ago. Overall I think, Kavanaugh will do just fine, as long as he sticks to his judicial philosophy and interpret the constitution as written rather than what he thinks it should say. Now, the left’s reaction to this whole thing has just been glorious and let me explain it more in detail.
Holy freaking crap guys. From the very moment Trump announced his pick, the left just lost it. Actually, before he announced it, they were already going insane. Seriously, they are making this out to be the worst thing to happen in American history. Of course, the main thing they are worried about and hedging all of their hopes on, is Roe v Wade. This is biggest difference on how the right sees the Supreme Court and how the left sees it. The right sees it as how it should be seen, as in the supreme court interpret laws according to constitution as written not what they think it should say. The left on the other hand, sees the Supreme Court as way to push their most precious agendas that couldn’t be done through Congress. They believe that Supreme court should rule based on how they personally see fit or how the left sees fit. This is why they panicking about Kavanaugh, because there’s a chance that he may interpret the constitution as written and declare Roe v Wade a unconstitutional ruling and overturn it. By the way, if Roe v Wade is overturned, it only puts the decision back to the state’s power which is how it should be, it will not make abortion illegal nationwide however. Doesn’t matter, the left continues to panic about it and here are just a few examples.
There were a lot of dumb tweets regarding the pick, and here are a few of them. The first one comes courtesy of Ron Perlman:
OK Ladies and Gentlemen who care for and respect ladies, it is official. The move back to Medieval values, Shariah Law even, where old, bitter men get to tell women what is best for their bodies, lives, and well being is as done a deal as this Twitter. Unless we say NO! NO! – @perlmutations
Ok, it’s hilarious that the left is suddenly against shariah law. Last time I checked, they were all about it. Also, this whole thing about how Kavanaugh will send us back 50years is just asinine. If you think, he will vote to overturn all civil rights acts, you are out of your mind. Also, I’m sorry to tell you this Ron, but yelling NO! isn’t going to change Trump’s mind. Here’s another dumb tweet sent by Terry McAuliffe:
The nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh will threaten the lives of millions of Americans for decades to come and will morph our Supreme Court into a political arm of the right-wing Republican Party. – @TerryMcAuliffe
So apparently, the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh will kill millions of Americans. Somehow I survived. I must be on a lucky streak because, I survived the renegotiations of the Paris accords, I survived the net neutrality repeal, I survived tax cuts, and now I survived this. This kind of language where people on the left say millions will die over some policy is getting old and it’s gonna cost them. Honestly, their reactions make me feel a lot better about Kavanaugh.
Now, here’s where things could get even better. Right now, the oldest Supreme Court Justice is Justice Ruth Ginsburg, who is 85 years old. If she were to retire some time in the near future, and replaced by Judge Amy Barrett, just imagine the meltdown the left will have then, it would be amazing.
In the end, no matter who Trump picked, the left was going to freak out. They just can’t stand not being in power right now and it’s causing them to go crazy. And luckily, Kavanaugh will easily be approved by Congress, even though some Democrats may try to filibuster it, which they can’t thanks to Harry Reid. I am still slightly skeptical of Kavanaugh, but I do hope he proves me wrong.
