On Friday, the annual March for Life took place in Washington DC. On this cold winter day, approximately 100,000 people showed up on the DC in order to stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves. Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro was the main speaker at the March and laid out a solid argument for the Pro-life position. Here is the link https://youtu.be/4tiawDAzeF4. Vice President Mike Pence also called in to discuss what the Trump administration has done in order to protect the unborn. It really warmed my heart to see so many people stand outside in the freezing cold in order to defend the lives of the unborn, including the 41 million babies who were killed around the world in 2018. With all of this going on, it’s easy to get caught up in the political aspect of it, especially with the media determined to discredit the our position. Every once in a while we have to stop and ask ourselves, why do we March for Life? Here is my answer to that question.
The reason why many people March for Life is because we believe, despite what the left says, that unborn babies are life and we must fight to protect them. Not only does the constitution protect the right to life but also that very life is precious to God and should be the same for us too. Now I know, this makes me a religious bigot who wants to control women’s bodies, but you know that’s not unsurprising. There is a tendency on the right to make completely scientific arguments regarding abortion. All of that is great of course since science is on our side on this issue no question about it. In fact, here is an article by Family Research Center and here’s part of it.
Abortion is unlike any other issue debated today. Millions of American women have aborted a child, and the pain, loss, and emotional need to justify what was done, both on the part of the mother and on the part of her loved ones, is strong and deep.[1] This means that, in any debate, you may face an invisible thumb on the scale so that even the best logic will fail to persuade.
The best you can do is arm yourself with the facts and deliver them in what you hope will be a winning way for your audience — meaning you will need to make your case, in most instances, not in the language of faith or religion but in the language of the post-modern secularist.
What follows, therefore, are the best arguments from science, the law, and women’s rights to advance the pro-life case against abortion.
…
The “classic” arguments from the other side are collapsing under the weight of science. “No one knows when life begins” and “It’s a blob of tissue” are frankly on the wane, especially in the context of surgical abortion, which is how the vast majority of abortions are done today.[2]
Still, establishing the evidence of the beginnings of human life will ground your argumentation in science, giving you a firm foundation for additional arguments and preempting the charge that you are basing your position on faith or religious belief.
…
At the moment when a human sperm penetrates a human ovum, or egg, generally in the upper portion of the Fallopian Tube, a new entity comes into existence. “Zygote” is the name of the first cell formed at conception, the earliest developmental stage of the human embryo, followed by the “Morula” and “Blastocyst” stages.[4]
…
The new human zygote has a genetic composition that is absolutely unique from itself, different from any other human that has ever existed, including that of its mother (thus disproving the claim that what is involved in abortion is merely “a woman and her body”).[5]
The piece goes on to explain the explain the scientific reasons why life begins at conception, and it’s a very solid argument. While it’s good to have science and data to back your position, it’s hard to talk about the pro life position without bringing up God.
There are some on the left who argue that The Bible does not support the pro life position, and this is simply untrue. Here are a few verses to back it up.
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Psalms 139:13
What it basically says here is that God carefully designed each and every one of us and gave us our own unique personality, so with this argument, why on earth would you want kill a baby that God carefully designed out of inconvenience?
For God created both me and my servants. He created us both in the womb.
Job 31:15 NLT
This is one pretty much gives the same argument as Psalms. Most bible verses regarding this argue the same thing and honestly it’s one that wins every time. There is however, one verse that solidifies our position and it’s one that defines the uniqueness of man kind.
So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27 NLT
This pretty much seals the deal doesn’t it. The left likes to argue that humans and animals have equal value and this is simply untrue. While He designed each animal in their own unique way, He gave us something no other animal has, the breath of life. God designed people in his own image, so with this in mind, we simply cannot ignore the value of each human life. So because each human life is valuable, we must protect it, including the unborn.
In the end, the pro life movement is going to win, I firmly believe that. Each year, more and more people are waking up and realizing how evil abortion is and I think years from now, people will look back on abortion like we look back on slavery today. The left is even realizing this which is why they are going to whatever lengths necessary to protect abortion including destroying people’s lives.
