On Tuesday, President Trump delivered an oval office speech on the issue of illegal immigration. The speech comes after the government partially shuts down, which was about 15-16 days ago, after Congress and The President fail to reach an agreement on border security. Now, it is important to note that this shutdown is not on President Trump. The shutdown is on the Democrats in Congress who absolutely refuse to give Trump any sort of funding for the wall. Sure, Trump should’ve done this while Republicans controlled the House, but I think the reason why he’s doing now is to appeal to Americans of how incompetent Democrats are and that they don’t care about the issue of illegal immigration. So, with all of that said, The President gave a speech on this topic, and then Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer gave a rather weird response.
At around 9 pm eastern time, President Trump delivers the speech from the oval office, and here is some of what he said. This is according to NPR.
My fellow Americans: Tonight, I am speaking to you because there is a growing humanitarian and security crisis at our southern border.

Every day, Customs and Border Patrol agents encounter thousands of illegal immigrants trying to enter our country. We are out of space to hold them, and we have no way to promptly return them back home to their country.

America proudly welcomes millions of lawful immigrants who enrich our society and contribute to our nation. But all Americans are hurt by uncontrolled, illegal migration. It strains public resources and drives down jobs and wages. Among those hardest hit are African Americans and Hispanic Americans.

In the last two years, ICE officers made 266,000 arrests of aliens with criminal records, including those charged or convicted of 100,000 assaults, 30,000 sex crimes, and 4,000 violent killings. Over the years, thousands of Americans have been brutally killed by those who illegally entered our country, and thousands more lives will be lost if we don’t act right now.

Last month, 20,000 migrant children were illegally brought into the United States — a dramatic increase. These children are used as human pawns by vicious coyotes and ruthless gangs. One in three women are sexually assaulted on the dangerous trek up through Mexico. Women and children are the biggest victims, by far, of our broken system.

The federal government remains shut down for one reason and one reason only: because Democrats will not fund border security.

My administration is doing everything in our power to help those impacted by the situation. But the only solution is for Democrats to pass a spending bill that defends our borders and re-opens the government.

This is not all of what he said, but these were the best parts in my opinion. Overall, I think the President gave a very strong speech. He hit all of the points that he needed to hit and touched the hearts of those who are affected by the crimes of illegal immigrants. Despite of what you think of President Trump, you can’t deny that he does have strong sympathy for the victims families as well as children and families who are here to find a better life but still cross the border illegally. Not only that, Trump has also cornered Democrats into defending their reasons for being against a wall, and it did not go well for them.
So after Trump’s speech, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer gave a brief response to it, and it was odd to say the least. First of all, the camera shot they had on Nancy and Chuck was down right hilarious and creepy. They both were staring blankly into the camera with a very stern face. The memes that went around for this were great and here are a couple of them.

Sadly, much of what we have heard from President Trump throughout this senseless shutdown has been full of misinformation and even malice.
And like y’all are innocent from this. Honestly, the amount of Hypocrisy that comes from Democrats is astonishing.
The fact is: On the very first day of this Congress, House Democrats passed Senate Republican legislation to re-open government and fund smart, effective border security solutions.
Uh huh?
But the President is rejecting these bipartisan bills which would re-open government – over his obsession with forcing American taxpayers to waste billions of dollars on an expensive and ineffective wall – a wall he always promised Mexico would pay for!
I love that they keep trotting out the phrase “expensive and ineffective wall”, but they don’t even bother defending their claims. First of all, while they say that 5 billion dollars for the wall is expensive, they are fine with spending trillions of dollars on the ridiculous green new deal or something that will destroy the American economy. Second, Democrats have not once said why the wall is supposedly ineffective.
The fact is: President Trump has chosen to hold hostage critical services for the health, safety and well-being of the American people and withhold the paychecks of 800,000 innocent workers across the nation – many of them veterans.
This is so stupid, I’m going stop it right here because it is so dumb. They say that President Trump is to blame for federal workers not getting paychecks, which is just asinine. They are the ones who refuse to give Trump simple funding for the wall, they are to blame for this, not the President.
In the end, this is a winning issue for the President. All he has to do, to keep pressuring Democrats and keep revealing their incompetence. The biggest mistake that he can make is calling for a National emergency. Not only would it be a mistake, it would also be a waste of time, because the courts will strike it down, he will complain about the courts and we’ll be to square one. Like I said, just keep pressuring the Democrats and he’ll eventually win.
