In recent American politics, especially in the past decade or so, we have seen an increase of people falling into the trap of identity politics. We have seen time and again how the identity politics movement has poisoned American politics and turned into something toxic. To understand the details of this, we first need to know the definition of identity politics. So, what is identity politics? According to Wikipedia, “Identity politics refers to political positions based on the interests and perspectives of social groups with which people identify”. What this is means is that, if you are a certain religion, race, gender, etc, your political beliefs must line up with your identity group. Basically with identity politics, you can’t have your own individual beliefs, if it doesn’t fall in line with your group, which is very stupid. Let me give examples of the left using this to their advantage.
The first example would be women, specifically today’s feminist movement. The left has this mindset that if you are a woman then you must be left leaning, and if anyone steps out of line, they will be destroyed. So, when a woman says she is conservative, the left unleashes all of its nastiness. For example, Dana Loesch of the NRA. Ever since the parkland shooting, she has been the center of the most vile and hateful comments on Twitter. They were calling here a whore, a murder, threatening her kids, etc. Dana has handled these attacks in best way possible in my opinion, which makes me respect her even more. Another example would be Sarah Palin. When she was picked by John McCain to be vice president, the left completely lost their minds. They attacked her, her family, her ability to do the job, basically they tried to bully her into submission, which didn’t work of course. If McCain would have won in 2008, I bet the attacks and bully tactics would have gotten much worse. Other women who have faced this would be, for some examples, Kassy Dillon, Allie Stuckey, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Condoleezza Rice, Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump, etc. Bottom line is that, if you are a conservative woman, the left believes you should be shunned and cannot be considered a real woman, which is just asinine. This isn’t the only group the left does this with.
Another example of a group that falls victim to the left’s identity politics would be African Americans. Now, I don’t know the statistics behind this, but I think the majority of black people tend to vote democrat in elections, so according to the left, if you are black, you must be a democrat. So, if a black person dares to say they are conservative, the left immediately will viciously attack them. Take for example, current Secretary of housing and urban development, Dr. Ben Carson. Ben Carson is of course not only conservative and Christian, he is also black, a combination the left just can’t stand. When he was running for President in the 2016 election, the left went out in full force against him. They were saying things like, “he’s a uncle tom” to saying he’s not black, and stupidly at one point calling him a “black white supremacist” …………… yeah, that makes total sense. He’s not only one, Herman Cain, Condoleezza Rice, Antonia Okafor, etc, basically anyone who is black and conservative, are subjected to the left’s bullying and attacks.
Now lets get something straight here, even though the left is far worse about this, the right has played identity politics in a way as well. For example, we take a look at the 2016 presidential election. Some conservatives during the election and still today believe that if you are conservative you must support Trump 100%, and if you don’t you are not a real conservative, which is just nonsense. Don’t get me wrong, I support the president, but I don’t support him on every single thing he does or say, meaning I support him when he does good, and criticize him when he does bad. Anyways, during the election cycle, their were a few conservatives who didn’t support Trump, including Ben Shapiro. Ben was attacked viciously during the election by Trump supporters. However, it is important to point out that most of people attacking conservatives like Ben Shapiro, were part of the alt-right, which I don’t concider to be part of the right whatsoever. Basically what I mean by this is that both the left and right are guilty of using identity politics to push agendas.
The point I’m trying to make here is that the notion of identity politics has dismantled American politics. Especially with the left, your identity is the only thing that matters, and certain groups must believe in certain things. So, when someone dares to defy their identity belief system, they must be destroyed. This sort of politics will destroy this country if we continue to let it happen. This why conservatives should lead by example, so that people will see the ultimate differences between conservatives and liberals. If we don’t do this, this country’s political system will keep getting worse and will eventually collapse.
