Hey everyone, welcome to my review of the movie Black Panther. Just to let y’all know, this will not contain spoilers, so if you haven’t seen it yet you have nothing to worry about, anyways on to the review. So, Black Panther is the newest installment in the marvel cinematic universe series that is set for the most part in the fictional country of Wakanda, and like Spiderman homecoming, is set not long after the events of civil war. In this review I will give you my general thoughts about the film, what I liked, what I disliked, etc.
Now the weeks leading up to the release of the film were a little crazy. When the first of the critical reviews of this movie came out a few weeks ago, they were all saying the movie was great, calling it the best marvel movie or best movie in general in existence. In other words, the movie seemed to be a little over hyped then it should have been in my opinion. With that being said, I thought the movie was actually really good. I loved the characters in this movie, I loved the story, it was just a great film overall.
The main character T,Challa aka black panther played by Chadwick Boseman was excellent in this movie. Chadwick did a great job portraying this character, he was cool, funny at times, did great with the drama scenes, just overall he was a good character. Another character I liked was his sister, Shuri played by Letitia Wright. She was funny, sarcastic, she had great chemistry with her fellow cast mates. We also had the head guard Okoye played by Danai Gurira who also plays the katana wielding badass, Michonne from The Walking Dead. Her character was excellent as well, her fighting skills remind me a lot of how Michonne fights against zombies in the show. The villain of the movie Erik Stevens played by Michael B. Jordan was awsome in this film. Michael B Jordan is a really good actor and I’m glad they are casting him in more movies. His character in this movie was cool, he portrayed the role of a villain really good which is awesome. Overall the characters in this were excellent, and I think they picked the perfect cast for this film.
Like with every movie, this one does have it’s flaws. One of the faults of this movie is that it did tend to drag on in a few scenes, at a few points I was like, alright let’s get this movie going please. It wasn’t terrible but you definitely noticed it. As much as I liked Michael B Jordan’s character in this movie, I feel like he was not particularly a villain that we’ll all remember a few years from now. Another flaw was that the action scenes in this movie wasn’t very exciting. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the action scenes, but they weren’t the best I’ve seen in marvel movies if you know what I mean, granted the fact that this is just a solo movie so I wasn’t expecting avengers style action.
Like I said before, overall i thought the movie was great, the characters all fit well with each other, the plot was great, etc. Now is this the best marvel movie ever made? No, it’s not. Overall I’ll give it a rating of 8.5 out of 10.
